The research was conducted to help
pupils master their spelling, segmenting, blending and writing of the phonetic
syllables skills in the KV+KVK (
K-Consonant V-Vowel ) words such as "kipas"
through the investigative approach and interactive aids and hence, the eTAM
Phonetic Syllables Module. It studies the effectiveness of the approach and
also the understanding and mastering of the phonetic syllables of the KVK in
the long term as this has been the main problem for remedial students in
learning the Bahasa Melayu. The research was conducted on 10 remedial students
from Year 1, 2 and 3.
There
are three main focus in the research. Firstly, to stimulate students to think
and blend the words and identify the pattern and relationship of phonemic
sounds which are similar to the phonetic syllables found in the KV+KVK words.
Secondly, to encourage pupils to give examples of words which have similar
phonetic sounds given by the teacher. Thirdly, to test whether the pupils can
construct correctly the KV+KVK words initially based on images or pictures
given and followed by words given by the teacher orally. The research starts from 2 May 2013 until 16 July 2013
through conducting observations, oral tests, post test, implementation and
analysis of the findings. Finally, I found that there is an improvement in the
pupil’s KV+KVK skills. In the oral tests, pupils were able to spell and
pronounce correctly 8 out of 10 of the KV+KVK words which have different
phonetic syllables compared to only 3 out of 10 before. Also in the written
test, it shows that 81% of the pupils were able to master through the usage of
the eTAM Phonetic Syllables Module.
